Description
TB-500 (Thymosin Beta-4) — Research Use Only
Overview
A synthetic 43-amino-acid peptide, supplied as a laboratory reagent. Some suppliers use the name TB-500 for a shorter fragment (Ac-LKKTETQ-OH); check the batch Certificate of Analysis to confirm the form supplied.

Research Areas
- Thymosin beta-4 is a 43-amino-acid peptide found in platelets and most tissue types. It is not a growth factor but an actin-sequestering peptide that binds monomeric (G-) actin, and its role in cell motility and cytoskeletal dynamics has been characterised.
- In vitro work has examined PDGF-BB-stimulated proliferation and migration of hepatic stellate cells at defined concentrations.
- Animal studies have used topical application in wound-closure models, with healing time as the measured endpoint.
- Murine skeletal muscle injury models have examined Tβ4 expression during regeneration. The sulfoxide form has been studied for its chemotactic effect on myoblasts derived from muscle satellite cells.
- Animal studies (Bock-Marquette et al., Nature, 2004) examined its activation of integrin-linked kinase and effects on cardiac cell migration and survival.
- LC/MS methods for detecting Tβ4-related peptides and metabolites have been developed for doping-control research.
- Much of the published work concerns full-length thymosin beta-4 rather than the fragment sometimes sold as TB-500.
Handling and Storage
Supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial. Store as stated above, protected from light and moisture, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Any reconstitution must take place in a controlled laboratory setting.
