Research Areas
- A nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) identified in the 1970s (Monnier and Schoenenberger) and named for the delta (slow-wave) and spindle EEG activity seen in animal studies.
- Studies have examined co-localisation with CLIP, ACTH, MSH and TSH, and relationships to ACTH, LH and growth hormone secretion.
- Research has examined circadian and locomotor patterns and brain neurotransmitter levels in animal models.
- DSIP has also been localised in gut secretory cells and the pancreas, where it has been reported alongside glucagon.
- Its receptor and precise biological role have not been firmly established.
